To address critical issues such as food waste reduction, nutritional enhancement, and sustainable production methods thereby fostering economic growth to meet the global security demands, adoption of advanced technologies is the need of the hour. Startup Grand Challenge 2.0 in the food processing sector is aimed at catalysing innovation and accelerating technological advancements.
Through this national-level Grand Challenge, Ministry of Food Processing and Industries (MoFPI) & Startup India aim to facilitate generation of disruptive ideas fuelled by fresh perspective and leading research. The key objectives of the challenge are:
How food waste can be treated through various innovative technologies to produce value-added products like food additives, biofertilizers, biofuels, electricity, animal feeds, organic fertilizers, food grade pigments, bio composites, single cell protein (SCP) etc. thereby enhancing food security and environmentally sustainable development. It can focus on smart/sustainable packaging solutions for food products as well.
How can we develop food manufacturing processes which use natural ingredients, retain nutrition, include functional ingredients in development of new food products having the health and wellness component on one hand and improve texture, mouthfeel and be palatability on the other.
What technologies can be used to recycle and reuse process water, optimise water usage through advanced sensors, develop water efficient equipment/processes and explore alternate water sources.
